Adobe icons controversy

Adobe released a set of, shall we say, minimalistic icons for its new CS3 suite (via). (See the icons here.)

Funny. The other day, I installed a new app with a pretty icon (a fish, I think). Then I realized I probably would not see this icon a lot, because these days I start most programs using an application launcher (Spotlight on the Mac, a homegrown program on Windows).

Given the limitations of Mac OS X's dock and Windows' start menu, maybe, just maybe, Adobe decided that many people use application launchers nowadays, and chose not to put too much work into a set of icons that not many people are going to see anyway.

Just a thought.
