1. Well, you've been awefully vague so far.

I think I've learned the following:
    * It will be a card game.
    * The game will support an arbitrary number of total cards.
    * The game will reward tactical play.
    * The game might have decks, or maybe not. It might have "creatures", or maybe not. It might have a fantasy theme, or maybe not.

Since you have defined so little, you leave lots of room for folks reading this to speculate. So I figured, what the heck... I'll throw in some ideas that I've had, and maybe he'll be interested.

One of the things that I have long been interested in is games which are NOT a simple zero-sum competition. For instance, each player might have different goals. I see a number of games that have an elementary version of this... consider, for example, the game Illuminati in which the players each have a different goal, and whoever satisfies their own goal first is the winner.

But I'd like to take this further. Suppose each player had a goal, but instead of racing to see who can satisfy their goal first, we see who can satisfy their goal before the game ends. Perhaps all players will win; perhaps I'll win but you won't make your goal, perhaps even we'll ALL lose. As a player, I have the opportunity to cooperate and help you to achieve your goal, or to try to prevent you from succeeding.

Now let me add one more complication. Suppose each player has MULTIPLE goals. So I have, perhaps 5 different goals, and I want to achieve as many of them as possible. One might be to have the most creatures. Another might be for the Golem to have been killed. Another might be to have earned over 30 points. Meanwhile, YOU might have a goal to have defeated a Major Artifact... I assist you in killing the Golem (a major artifact), and we BOTH achieve our goals. On the other hand, if you ALSO have the goal of having the most creatures, then only one of us can achieve that one.

So anyhow, my basic idea here is that some of the cards would represent different goals. One of the nice things about this is that it's pretty much infinitely expandable... you can always create new Goal cards, and they won't tend to "break" the existing game. And the game play could be rather interesting if we have the possibility to compete or cooperate in complicated ways.

A few suggestions if you wanted to do something with the ideas here. (1) there needs to be a "core game"... some basic actions and entities that always exist in all games, and the goals would mostly be written in terms of these. In my examples, I had goals based on "creatures" which were "killed", and also on "points". (2) Some of the goals available should be independent (have most creatures VS kill the Golem), others should be somewhat dependent (have most creatures vs have greatest total creature strength), while others should be mutually exclusive (have most creatures vs have most creatures... only one of us can succeed). (3) The players should not have completely free selection of goals: otherwise, they will frequently choose the same goals. Perhaps some goals should be randomly drawn, others assigned by one's opponents. Perhaps goals should be secret. A real effort should be made to ensure that the goals are different enough from one playing to another that it doesn't always feel like "the exact same game".

Anyhow, there are my thoughts. Make use of it if you like, and let me know (mcherm@mcherm.com) if you find it a worthwhile idea.

  2. Yes... vague. :) At this point, almost everything is possible. In the next posts, I hope to flesh out a number of design rules.

I like the idea of Goals. I already more or less decided that the game will be creatures-only, but there's room for Goal cards as well, since they are not part of the direct player interaction.

Lots of things are possible. Let's say the game has 20 Goal cards. Players could pick them at random, or choose them knowingly, or even choose goals for others. During them game, certain effects may add, remove or even change goals. Etc.

I agree that such a game would be much more interesting (and more subtle) than "mainstream" games where all you have to do is overpower your opponent.

  3. Hi,
I have ideas for my card game... but im just getting started im only starting rules and game play.. but how do i even get it to be on that kind of paper that most card games have it on... because i dont want it on a flimsy peace of junk :( also i need to figure out how to design the card itself... because i can find images but i mean i kinda need the back rounds and stuff like that...

  4. I'm currently generating my card sheets as PDF. They're very simple, containing only text, but it would not be so hard to add images as well. I'm guessing that a place like Kinko's (or something similar) can print them on cardboard. I haven't tried this yet though... at the moment we're playing with "flimsy pieces of junk". ;-)

  5. I am also designing a card game. If you want to get it printed somewhere, I would suggest not Kinkos, unless of course, you are a billionare and are willing to shell out a lot :P

  7. In 2000, scientists discovered that more than 1% of the polar bears on the Arctic island of Svalbard, which belongs to Norway,
are hermaphrodites, in other words, they possess both male and female reproductive organs (Teen Sex Porn, fine art nude Photography).
They attributed the bears’ over-endowed condition to PCBs, Teen Porn Pictures,
a group of environmentally persistent industrial chemicals that disrupt animals’ hormone systems.
One of the chemicals found in the area was DDT, which is still used to fight malaria in Africa.

  8. It is sure here that we are going to discuss about the topic which is out of date but it doesn't matter what discussion is going on, our intention is quite different here, i just wud like to share my views about the site, which is full of good contents and in homepage, its a very nice and reasonable layouts which you can find in rare sites only. Thanks.
