1. I don't think Bush supporters tend to be misinformed. At least no more than Kerry supported tend to be! Generally there is a culture that both sides have, and both sides have a folklore about themselves and their enemy that isn't necessarily based in reality.

However, a major reason that people would vote for Bush over Kerry is philosophical differences(or vice versa). A lot of what the two guys stand for is philosophically different, whether it is foreign relations, handling terror, dealing with domestic issues, education, etc...

Personally, I voted for Bush, but was planning to vote 3rd party. As you may have noticed, the total 3rd party vote this time around was less than 1% of the vote (e.g. they had neglible impact on the election). I believe the reason is that people saw one particular candidate as diametrically opposed to them on some philosophical issue.. and voted against them. I voted more against Kerry than I did FOR Bush.

And as a Bush supporter, I did my very best to stay informed (not misinformed) and sought as unbiased news souces as I could. I grew to love the factcheck.org website which routinely trounced on both sides for lying and misleading statements.

I think it would be much better for our country that we acknowledged philosophical differences, rather than just dismissing the other side as misguided, misinformed, or evil. Certainly, any of those elements can be true for individuals, but lets not stereotype the groups, ok?
