Well, you can use shift to close the prevous window when opening a new one(macs use option for this)...

and there is "Close parent folders" in the file menu...


Gravatar Vanilla Ubuntu is pretty nice, but there's always Kubuntu should you want a slightly different flavour of desktop environment (KDE instead of GNOME).

As for the packages, even with various sources enabled I've seen strange issues where packages can be selected and their dependencies added to the installation list, but Kynaptic won't install any of them - then again, Kynaptic seems pretty limited.


Gravatar Got to agree that Ubuntu have screwed up the spatial browsing mode (just so you know, the default spatial browser closes the previous windows). Glad you got the package manager working though, it's one of the better gui tools for the job that I've seen (although I've not seen too many).


Gravatar Yes, the package manager is nifty... and it actually works. At least now I can install popular software without having to do the download-unpack-configure-make-install dance. IRIX had something like that too, but it wasn't as effective, IIRC.
