Gravatar In what way(s) )) ?

I surely like firedrop2. The only difficulty I have ever had, is I can't get wax, firedrop, and wxPython to work on the new version of Mac OS X (Tiger). I have found wxPython often breaks when I update to a new version. In this case, merely updating to anew version of Mac OS X broke the combo, and on Tiger , there is no way of going back to an earluer version of wxPython that I can make work either.

Gravatar If you can get wxPython 2.6 for Tiger to work, then Wax 0.3 should work with that. Unless there are Mac-specific bugs, of course... :-/

Gravatar I'll have to give it another try. My impression last time was that there were Mac-specific bugs.

I also am very keen on firedrop2 - what don't you like about it ?

Gravatar I didn't say I didn't like Firedrop...

Gravatar Is wax 0.3 available on Sourceforge?

Gravatar The latest version is available from Sourceforge CVS (it's still under development, with changes every other day or so). I can send you a zip file if you want.

Gravatar I will clean my Mac of all old versions and try to re-install evrything pythonic this weekend. If you send me a zip file of the latest wax, that might help me since I am not too familiar with cvs. ))

Gravatar Thanks, Hans, I got teh version 3 you sent me by email, and it worked liek a charm. Now, I am running Firedrop on the altest wxPython and wax, on Python 2.4.1 on Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger.

I am going to install Fuzzyman's plugins now and try to figure out how to do plugins of my own soemday.

Menawhile< i think AI willdo a podcast on how to install and use Firedrop 2 for my python411 podcasts series. It is for amateurs learnign and using python and get about 300 subscribers already, and some nice emailed feedback.

Ron

Gravatar Everything workign fine for me now. I will do a podcast soon about Firedrop2 on my python411 series. This might result in more folks becoming interested in using Firedrop2.

Fuzzyman, I wonder if you would consider doing some "frozen" installation files for Firedrop2 for Linux, Mac and Windows.

Gravatar Fuzzyman,

I love your plugin extensions (now that I canuse them) ))

Gravatar Hello Hans and Fuzzyman,

I have revised, updated and added to the Mini How-To for intalling and setting up Firedrop2, and I have also posted a podcast about Firedrop2, both can be found on my Blog.

I have installed and used) Firedrop2 at various times on Windows, Suse Linux and Mac OS X, and the only problem I have ever had was on Mac OS X; the latest 10.4 Tiger didn't seem to work well for me with the wxPython 2.5x so i upgraded to wxPython2.6.1 which was not compatible with wax 2.x. Now, Hans, your wax 3.x works great with wxPython 2.6.1 so I back to using Firedrop2 on my main Mac machine; and in the podcast I can give a little advice to folks on how to avoid the version difficulties I experienced.

Podcasting is a phenomenon. I can hardly believe how its popularity is exploding. My python411 podcast series has more than 300 subscribers (plus innumerable direct downloads) and I have not promoted it at all. It is aimed at newbies who are learning Python (not for experts!), and I am gettign alot of grateful emails form folks telling me it helps them. So I think the podcast will result in some more Firedrop2 users. Also, I am scheduled to be interviewed on Podcast411, a much more popular podcast, and that will no doubt cause many more people to subscribe to python411.

Concerning Firedrop2, I love your plugins module, Fuzzyman, and I have an idea for a plugin I will write, although given my time constraints and limited skills, it will take me a while no doubt; but i will make a sort of "poll" plugin, but much more sophisticated than the simple polls offered on message forums; I envision mine to allow the sysop to ask questions like, which candidate do you prefer in an upcoming election, but also listing several criteria, and the end user can weight the importance of each criteria, then score each candidate one each criteria, then total the weighted average for each candidate; and the cgi program (Firedrop2 plugin) will store teh scores and produce running graphs of the results. As I say, it will take me a while, but its a nice project )).

Also, I am thinking it woudl be nice to eventually have "frozen" distributions of Firedrop2 for the major platforms, Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. I can do one for Mac OS X , maybe you can do one for Windows Fuzzyman?

Another idea is this. Podcasters are looking for tools to manage their podcasts. I think Firedrop2 could be great at this. Imagine a plugin that created an enclosure tag (really just an rss tag for mp3 files) and allowed the podcaster to include a podcast in a Blog entry; the blog could include the "Show Notes" for the podcast. Right now, most podcasters create their rss file updates by hand, and then make "Show Notes" on a separate web page. Since most podcasters , especially in the future , are not very technical, an automated all in one tool like Firedrop2 could be become the leading Podcast management tool. It

I will do a frozen Windoze distribution of Firedrop2 at some point.... Of course the wx libraries make this fairly hefty - also the spellchecker (PyEnchant) has issues running where it's not installed... still - we can get somewhere.
