I haven't read the books in about 15 years... But as far as I remember, Jadis and the White Witch are one and the same. And Wikipedia seems to confirm this.

Unlike Harry Potter, the Narnia books aren't that closely tied to each other, so I don't think it will be so hard. Chronology changes a lot, and there's different main characters. Of course, the seventh book doesn't happen that long after the first, so I assume they'll need new actors then. The seventh book is also sick, much like the last book of the bible, but maybe that's just me.
Personally I wouldn't recommend rereading those books; they are better to remember fondly than to reexperience. But it depends on what you expect to get out of them. Perhaps Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials -- which was a kind of reaction to Narnia -- made me look at the Narnia books differently (I reread Narnia after HDM).

I read what Philip Pullman said about the Narnia books... I don't agree with this criticism at all, but that is material for another blog post. :-/
